I moved to Haywards Heath in 1968 when my father took a job at the new industrial estate. The town was still quite small then, and the walk to school took us past open fields where the retail park now stands.
I remember the old cinema on Perrymount Road most vividly. Saturday mornings were for the children's matinee, sixpence to get in, and the whole street smelled of chip fat from the shop next door. My mother would send me with just enough money for the ticket and nothing spare for sweets, which never stopped me trying to sneak some in anyway.
